The absolute best environmental influencers on Instagram (LONG list)

I have spent many hours on Instagram browsing through different profiles. In fact, I believe that I have looked at around 300-400 different profiles in order to make a list of the best environmental/sustainable influencers in various sub categories.

Before we start, I just want to say that there are loads of different types of “sustainable influencers”. Therefore, I have chosen to use the following categories:

– Zero waste heroes.
– Eco-travelers.
– Vegan influencers.
– General environmental influencers (those who post everything from funny memes to useful statistics).

In other words: I filtered out all the crap for you. All of the Instagram accounts mentioned in this article deliver high quality pictures. 🙂

Zero waste influencers

Are you aware of the term “zero waste”?

There is a huge movement of people out there trying to reduce the amount of waste they create in their daily life. Living a waste-free life in our society might seem like “mission impossible”. However, these people do it. And they are willing to share their best tips on Instagram to get you on board as well! 🙂

1. Kathryn Kellogg

There are many reasons why Kathryn is my favorte “zero waste Instagrammer”. Her pictures are of really good quality, the posts are educational and she often replies to comments from fans.

2. The Zero Waste Collective

The Zero Waste Collective is actually a brand made by a Canadian woman named Tara. She sells e-books about how you can live a trash-free life. However, I have no interest in her products nor her website. What I admire is that she puts up some really good content on her Instagram account, just like this one:

3. Intentionalism

Heather is a woman that lives a sustainable life together with her family. She is great at documenting her eco-friendly lifestyle through amazing pictures on Instagram. The only bad thing to say about this account is that she posts (waay) too seldom.

Eco-concious travelers (Eco-Travelers)

There are tons of “travel bloggers” on social media. Unfortunately, only a handful of them are traveling in an eco-friendly way. These are the best eco-concious travelers that I know of:

1. Eco Travel Diary

This Instagrammer is traveling around the world in non-toxic clothing and eating vegan food. What is not to love?

2. Wandering Kamya

Together with around 200,000 other people, I have been following the British girl Kamya around the world for about a year. She posts very interesting pictures from different tourist destinations almost every day. There are several things that makes her Instagram profile worth following:

1) She is a digital nomad.

2) The pictures are of really high quality.

3) She uses her fan base to teach people about eco-friendly practices.

If you wonder why I care so much about green traveling, feel free to read this article. Most people do not know this, but the overall carbon footprint from the travel industry is MASSIVE.

Top vegan influencers

One of my favorite hobbies is to browse for new vegan dishes. As written in a previous article that I published on Sustainability Matters, this is something that has inspired me to eat less meat. By looking at some of the dishes created by these fantastic influencers, you might get some inspiration as well…

1. Deliciously Ella

Possibly the most popular vegan Instagramer in the world. Words are not needed to describe the content she puts up. It’s simply stunning.

2. MINIMALIST BAKER

This is all about simple vegan recipes that you can make really easy. Easy, easy, easy. Cheap, cheap, cheap.

Minimalist Baker has inspired me a lot to make my dinners as simple and cheap as possible (without sacrificing taste).

3. Jasmine Briones (Sweet Simple Vegan)

Jasmine is a sweet girl who likes to cook vegan food. She also loves uploading pictures of her dog (and occasionally some dude that I would assume is her boyfriend/husband). Even though she is not as “famous” as the other two vegan bloggers, her profile contains 100 % high quality photos.

Other environmental influencers (misc)

Sustainability Matters

I did make an Instagram account for this website. However, I will be the first to admit that it is not very active. Frankly, I sort of gave up posting a lot of content. It would still be cool if you followed though! 🙂

Conclusion

A you can see, there are loads of great eco-influencers on Instagram. Many of them have been an important part of inspiring me to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle.

As the number of good influencers grow, so does the variety of different “environmental niches”. For instance, you can find some influencers that only focus on eco-friendly alcoholic beverages. There are also loads of Instagram profiles that only feature models that wear eco-friendly (non-harmful) makeup. I feel that I have done quite a lot of work for you if you want to follow the “mainstream” eco-influencers. However, there are so much out there that you might want to use different keywords for an hour or two in order to know that you have found what you are really looking for. 🙂

  1. Thank you for the list!

I also dream of becoming an Instagram influencer that promotes a sustainable and green topic. Not sure where to start…which platform to use. Started a twitter account a while ago, but it was difficult to get followers. Facebook doesn’t give you anything for free anymore…they want you to pay up.

So do you have any tips on where I should try to become “famous”?

  2. Casemira Mirandez

Thank you for the list. What I like is that you do not just randomly list 10 people who “write something about the environment on Instagram or Twitter”, like most of these lists are. When I click on them ,they either bring me to some random person who are NOT ECO-FRIENDLY AT ALL….or its a dead link. 🙂

However, you list was very nice. I got a couple of new people to follow
